All riders must have show attire (helmet, hunt coat, show shirt, breeches or jodhpurs, and boots for hunter and equitation classes; helmet, collared shirt, breeches or jodhpurs, and boots for jumper classes), except in the Lead Line, Warm-up classes, Opportunity Eq., and Trotting Pole Hunter division.  ASTM approved helmet required for all classes.

Equitation Divisions

      Open to horses/ponies of any age or showing experience ridden by an exhibitor who has not shown over fences 2’ or higher in the last 15 years or ridden professionally. For riders who compete over fences, the points from the walk/trot class will count towards division year-end awards, but not High Point Equitation standings.  Riders may not cross enter into Equitation B,C,D, or E at the same show.  Once a rider has shown over fences higher than 2’ he/she is no longer eligible to compete in this division after the current season.  Fences are cross rails no higher than 1' in the center.

Open to all junior and amateur riders who are current MiHJA members.  Riders may not cross enter any classes higher than 2', and may not cross enter into the MIHJA Medal, MIHJA Beginner Medal, or MIHJA Mini Medal at the same show.  All riders will show over a course of not less than 7 obstacles, that may include at least one change of direction. The top four riders may be asked to execute a test. Fences are crossrails not to exceed 1' in the center. Tests 1-4 may be required.  At the end of the season, the top 12 riders will qualify for the MIHJA Cross Rail Medal Finals.

CLASS 123               CROSS RAIL MEDAL

Open to junior and amateur riders who are current MiHJA members.  Riders may not cross enter into classes higher than 2'3 and may not cross enter into the MIHJA Medal or MIHJA Mini Medal, or MIHJA Cross Rail Medal at the same show.  All riders will show over a course of not less than 7 obstacles, with at least one change of direction. The top four riders may be asked to execute a test over fences. Fences not to exceed 1'6". Tests 1-11 may be required.  Fences 1'9".  At the end of the season, the top 12 riders will qualify for the MIHJA Beginner Medal Finals.

CLASS 124             MiHJA BEGINNER MEDAL

Open to all junior and amateur riders who are current MIHJA members.  Horse/rider combination may not cross enter into the MIHJA Medal at the same show.  Winner receives a medal.  All riders will show over a course of not less than 8 obstacles, with at least one change of direction. The top four riders will be asked to execute a test over fences.  Judge MAY call back additional riders if deemed appropriate.  The same animal must be shown in all phases of the class and with the same tack in which it began the class.  Class to be judged on hands, seat, guidance, and control throughout.  Jumping faults of mount not to count. Fences not to exceed 2'3".  USEF tests 1-11 may be required.  At the end of the season, the top 12 riders will qualify for the MIHJA Mini Medal Finals.

CLASS 125             MIHJA MINI MEDAL

MIHJA MEDAL CLASS                                                                   CLASS ENTRY FEE: $10

Open to any junior or amateur MIHJA member. To be judged in two phases (on the flat and over fences) with equal weight given to each phase.  Winner receives a medal.  To jump a minimum of 8 equitation or hunter type fences with or without wings.  Judge or course designer MUST incorporate at least two tests from the US Equestrian Rule Book (Equitation Division) in the course.  The judge will then select one-fourth of the class, but not less than 6 exhibitors, if available, to show on the flat, including two or more tests from the US Equestrian Equitation rules.  Judge MAY call back additional riders if deemed appropriate and tests 1-22 may be used.  The same animal must be shown in all phases of the class and with the same tack in which it began the class except NO MARTINGALES ON THE FLAT.  Class to be judged on hands, seat, guidance, and control throughout.  Jumping faults of mount not to count.  Fences 2'9".  At the end of the season, the top 12 riders will qualify for the MIHJA Medal Finals.

Open to any horse or pony. This class will be open in the morning and will consist of trotting poles or cross rails, depending on when they choose to do their warm-up round. It does not have to be their first round of the day. Additional rounds will be unjudged. This class is not recognized by the MIHJA.

CLASS 131,132     WARM-UP I OVER FENCES

Open to any horse or pony. This class will be open all day starting at 1'6" and can be done at any height the exhibitor chooses, depending on when they choose to do their warm-up round. It does not have to be their first round of the day. Additional rounds will be unjudged. This class is not recognized by the MIHJA.

Special Hunter Classes

HANDY HUNTER                                                                                CLASS ENTRY FEE: $10

Open to any exhibitor on any horse or pony.  This class will be open all day and can be done at any height the exhibitor chooses. The course must have at least two changes of direction as well as three of the following: hand gallop a jump, bending line, rollback turn, fence at the end of the ring or open a gate while mounted, trot over one obstacle, or lead over one obstacle.  Emphasis on tight turns and overall handiness of the horse.  Optional fence height 1'6"-3'.

CLASS 224               HANDY HUNTER

MIHJA TROTTING POLE HUNTER CLASSIC                             CLASS ENTRY FEE: $12

Open to any equus or rider that has not shown over fences higher than 2'.  Cantering will be penalized.  Two rounds judged using open numerical scoring.  The first round of the Classic will be Trotting Pole Horse or Rider Hunter Over Poles class.  The second round not to exceed 12 poles.  Ribbons 1-8.  PRIZE MONEY as follows: 1st - $20, 2nd - $15, 3rd - $10, 4th - $8, 5th - $5, 6 - $2, 7 - R, 8 - R.  High Point Hunter points are doubled for this class.

CLASS 225                 TROTTING POLE HUNTER CLASSIC

Open to any exhibitor on any horse or pony. Two rounds judged using open numerical scoring. The first round will be the same as Sunday’s round for any hunter division in Ring 1. The second round not to exceed 12 jumps. Fence height depends on the division in which the Classic is included. Ribbons 1-8. PRIZE MONEY as follows: 1st - $25, 2nd - $20, 3rd - $15, 4th - $10, 5th - $5, 6 - $5, 7 - R, 8 - R
